Hayyan Cellworks
Heritage anchor: Jabir ibn Hayyan (c. 721–815 CE), Latinised as Geber — Arab polymath who codified the experimental method. "Cellworks" matches the entity's CDMO function. Strong on every dimension.
Brand system · v0.1 · workshop view
This page exposes the workshop behind the brand system: every candidate name, every logo variant, every palette token, every tagline under consideration. It is the decision-aid the KFSHRC Programme Office, BOD, and Royal Court advisors use to review the identity work before Phase B locks the system. Hayyan Cellworks is the recommended primary; the alternates and underlying system are documented here so the recommendation can be tested against them.
01 · Name candidates
The 28 May BOD slate tested seven names against four generic criteria (heritage, international, ownability, neutrality). Re-scoring against KFSH-fit — Saudi anchor + Academic-Hybrid CDMO register + bilingual ownability — keeps the BOD's heritage anchor and refines the suffix. Methodology and full matrix in BRAND.md §2.
Heritage anchor: Jabir ibn Hayyan (c. 721–815 CE), Latinised as Geber — Arab polymath who codified the experimental method. "Cellworks" matches the entity's CDMO function. Strong on every dimension.
"Najmah" (نجمة) = "star". Heritage anchor: the eight-pointed Islamic star — fundamental geometric unit of Islamic architecture and Andalusi tilework. Clean TM space, brand-led rather than figure-led.
"Sayyad" (سيّاد, provisional) = "the seeker / pursuer" — methodical pursuit of cures. Differentiator: the "Cell & Gene" suffix matches SFDA / FDA regulatory vocabulary directly (“cell and gene therapy products”), trading manufacturing register for clinical-regulatory coherence. Final Arabic spelling pending Phase A counsel.
Al-Kindi (c. 801–873 CE), "philosopher of the Arabs", pioneer of cryptology and early pharmacology. Less crowded TM space than Avicenna / Razi. Heritage-strong but "Bio" suffix softer on CDMO register.
Including the original BOD slate (28 May), the four primary candidates, and excluded candidates with reasons.

TM-cluttered. Avicenna Holding, Pharma, Bio, Diagnostics all extant. Heritage value undermined by dilution.
Direct conflict with Iran's Razi Vaccine & Serum Research Institute. KSA/Iran geopolitics adds avoidable friction.
Religiously loaded (Prophet's migration). Would not pass religious-sensitivity review for a commercial entity.
Conceptually perfect (the original academic hybrid) but too long for a wordmark. Reserved as tagline / story device instead.
Math-coded ("algorithm" derives from his name). Strong scientific heritage but wrong domain for biotech.
02 · Logo system
Each mark serves a specific application. The full bilingual wordmark anchors web and print collateral; the Latin wordmark serves English-only contexts; the alembic mark is the heritage signature; the mihrab monogram is the favicon and signet form.
Marks remain unchanged on dark surfaces — the green-and-gold register holds against the deep-green background used in hero panels, footers, and printed dust jackets.
03 · Colour palette
Mirrors KFSHRC's institutional green-and-gold register rather than competing with it. Builds parent-institution affinity. Navy is preserved as the typographic ink layer so the register stays serious. Detailed palette tokens and accessibility contrasts in BRAND.md §4.
04 · Typography
Mirrors KFSH's live web register exactly. KFSH's proprietary KFSH typeface is unavailable externally; their fallback is Noto Sans / Noto Sans Arabic, which we adopt as the digital standard for the affiliate. Cormorant Garamond + Amiri remain candidates for editorial print collateral.
05 · Tagline candidates
Phase B narrows to one. Each candidate is a different angle on the same brand: heritage anchor, geographic anchor, methodology anchor, mission anchor. The recommended primary is the first; alternates exist so the choice can be tested rather than assumed.
06 · Voice register
Reserved · evidence-led · third-person. The reference register is institutional teaching-hospital, not biotech startup. Vision 2030 alignment lives in the brand story, never in the slogan.
Voice and tone calibrated against:
Explicitly NOT calibrated against: Moderna, Vertex, Vor Bio, Arcus, or any biotech IPO-style messaging.
Trademark agent preference · Royal Court naming constraints · KFSHRC co-branding rules · Legal vs. trade-name structure · Vision 2030 endorsement framework. Documented in BRAND.md §10 and surfaced for the Phase A kickoff brief.
